The Narutis Hotel
  Vilnius Vilnius

General information: This building is the architectural monument of the 16th century that was specially built to house a hotel and was first mentioned in 1581 in the Book of World Cities published in Cologne. In the 16-19th centuries professors, scholars and students (whose families belonged to the nobility) of the University of Vilnius, one of the oldest universities in Eastern Europe, as well as famous people of science and culture lived in the Hotel. Poets Adam Miczkiewicz and Juliusz Slowacki, writer and historian Kraszewski have lived and worked in this building. The Narutis Hotel is one of the most unique hotels in Eastern Europe because it preserved its original structure from the Middle Ages, and it has its own closed inner courtyard which was covered with a glass roof during the major reconstruction 5 years ago.Location:The Narutis Hotel is located on Pilies Street, the main artery of Vilnius' Old Town.Area details:Windows of the hotel face the square of St. John's Church of the University, which is the most beautiful square of the Old Town. Other windows have a view over a quiet courtyard of the former Botanical Garden of the University. From the hotel windows you can see a beautiful panorama of church and mansion towers, Gediminas Castle and Hill of Three Crosses.Recreation:The 16th century cellars house the elegant and romantic restaurant beloved by the residents and guests of Vilnius. This restaurant can provide the seating for 50 people. The restaurant offers European cuisine, carefully selected and prepared by the chef of the international class. Various embassies, ministries and companies have lunches or dinners here. Banquettes and fourchettes for up to 70 people are arranged in the restaurant. The New Year's celebrations at the Narutis Hotel are receiving great acclaim. Kristupo Cafe is very popular in the Old Town. The Cafe was named after a famous Lithuanian nobleman Kristupas Radvila-Juodasis who once was the owner of the hotel. In the cozy surrounding you may enjoy a cup of tea or coffee and taste cakes and savory salads.Rooms:The Hotel practically does not have two rooms that would be the same. Each room has its own face with unique frescoes, wall paintings, original 16th century beam ceilings, timber-framed floors or gothic vaults. At the end of 2000 all rooms of the hotel were redecorated under the supervision of the French architect and designer Anne Toulous. For the rooms she selected stylish and comfortable Lithuanian and French furniture, elegant curtains and bedspreads, soft and noise absorbing carpeting for the rooms and corridors.
