a traditional building in design, the hotel originally opened its doors in 1845. externally it has managed to retain much of its period charm and features including its original wrought iron and glass frontage.

the hotel has 70 medium sized rooms which are traditionally furnished and of good quality. all rooms offer remote control, colour television, direct dial telephone, hair dryers and trouser press. in addition a 24-hour room service is available.

the main restaurant is called the peacock which serves traditional british and european cuisine it serves quality food which is well presented. a carvery lunch is served daily from 12 noon to 3 pm and a-la-carte dinner from 5.30 pm to 9.30 pm. to complement their meal, diners may choose from an extensive wine list.

the lobby is small but comfortable and is located centrally within the building with the bar to the left and restaurant to the right.
