Around 400 years ago, in the back of this 16th century building, a hotel was set up in an inn that was called "'t Schomynckel", which litterally means "Beautiful Place". Later, the contiguous houses, dated also of the 16th century, were transformed in Neo-Renaissance style and integrated within the hotel compound.
Through the porch (the current entrance), we had access to a patio with a well and stables. In 1908, that patio was covered with a colourful, unique stained glass dome in late Art Nouveau style.
Essentially after the second World War, modernization and restauration works have been executed by the family Marécaux, the last one started in 1993, so the hotel addes, as far as comfort is concerned, a real modern dimension to its traditions. Yesterday for the Bruges Beau Monde, now a banketing hall for the Bruges Society for their meetings, celebrations, weddings and dinners.
