The hotel was the meeting place of the officers with their ladies, the lovelorn youth, the citizens and nobility but, following a major blaze, almost all the buildings, including the glass palace, were destroyed. By 1912, the Sophienalpe was rebuilt and to this day maintains, in part, its former appearance. Now, totally modernised, the Hotel-Restaurant Sophienalpe, renowned for its excellent Viennese and International cuisine and its wonderful setting amidst the Vienna Woods, remains a favourite outing of the Viennese. Over the years it has become a favourite port of call for more and more visitors to Vienna, both from this country and abroad, who are seeking to combine a visit to the cultural sights of Vienna with quiet relaxation and recreation.
