On entering the lobby visitors find themselves in a large oval where the attention is immediately caught by a colossal pink bucket. Every second one single water drop is trickling down from the ceiling, into the brim-full bucket and is keeping the water in motion. This sculpture “Irritation im Sekundentakt” by Dornbirn artist Wolfgang Flatz is continued in the waterfall outside the restaurant. The rooms differ by individually designed bedspreads as well as the butterfly pictures, each one unique and specifically designed for the Martinspark Hotel by Ingmar Alge jun. Butterflies: Project Butterflies 1994/95 uses a box of matches with a butterfly motive as starting point of a communication between the artist and the user, who is asked to change the motive spontaneously. Enlarged photographs of those modified butterflies are hanging in the rooms of the Martinspark Hotel. The project consists of 100 distinct photo reproductions of the boxes and 9 different matchboxes. The rooms are characterized by material consciousness, functional phantasy and a modern interpretation of shapes. All 98 rooms are equipped with private bathroom, air conditioning, satellite TV, radio, mini-bar, in room safe and wireless internet. The Martinspark hotel is thus the only hotel in Vorarlberg where all rooms dispose of air conditioning.
